Unofficial mobile port of the classic arcade

Metal Slug 4 is a free-to-play action game from the hero apps team, serving as a mobile port of the classic Neo-Geo arcade video game from SNK. This 2D side-scrolling follows the Peregrine Falcon Squad, this time tasked with taking down the terrorist organization known as the Amadeus Syndicate, which has allied itself with General Morden, a recurring villain in the Metal Slug series.

Metal Slug 4 sees Nadia and Trevor in place of Eri and Tarma, plus Marco and Fio for that classic run-and-gun experience. Also, check out Metal Slug: Awakening, METAL SLUG 3, and METAL SLUG X.

Save the world with new heroes

Like most games in the Metal Slug series, Metal Slug 4 is a 2D side-scrolling game where you take control of a commando soldier sent against armies of terrorists, zombies, aliens, and more. It features a unique story and a couple of new features. Aside from two new characters, Nadia and Trevor, it also has the 2H two-handed sub-machine guns. It is also known for introducing the monkey transformation.

As an unofficial mobile port, it faithfully translates the arcade controls onto your touchscreen, making it easy to play and enjoy. It also has controller support. Also, fans of the game would love it as it covers the entire game, including secrets and easter eggs. Even the soundtrack has been captured and translated well, allowing you to enjoy Toshikazu Tanaka, a well-known collaborator for the Metal Slug games.

While this game introduces new content to the franchise, other parts of the game were just recycled from earlier titles. While this won’t be a problem for new players, fans of the franchise will immediately sense the familiarity. Aside from this small concern, plus the replacement of beloved characters Eri and Tarma, the game works well and runs smoothly, making it a welcome addition to the franchise.

A run-of-the-mill MS game

With the Metal Slug franchise owning certain game elements over its long run, Metal Slug 4 is a welcome addition to the series, in both the positive and negative aspects. It introduces a couple of features in the game, with the addition of new characters opening up opportunities for more playable characters to join the Peregrine Falcon Squad in later releases. Recommended.
